The Green Giant- A Visualizing Lesson

Today we worked on "visualizing" in our class during Language Arts. We used the poem Green Giant by Jack Prelutsky(below). To prepare, I wrote the poem on sentence strips and displayed it where the class could see.

During the lesson, Miss M. read the poem several times as the class closed their eyes and "visualized" a Green Giant using descriptive clues the poem provided.
After discussing each descriptive piece of the poem, the students had the opportunity to draw their own Green Giants! I cannot believe how awesome these little guys turned out! The students really embraced the idea that everyone's mental image is different and took the time to create unique and independent pieces! We decided to cut the giants out and hang them around our poem for all to see! This was a great lesson!
